Biography

Dr Halefom Abraha was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, working on the project ‘iMANAGE - Rethinking Employment Law for a World of Algorithmic Management’. He researched the impact of AI and algorithmic management on privacy and data protection. His research interests included AI Regulation, Cross-border Data Access in the law enforcement context, Data Protection, Digital Sovereignty, and Internet Regulation.

Halefom received his (joint) PhD in law and digital technology from the University of Malta and Edith Cowan University (Australia). His doctoral thesis on 'Cross-Border Data Access for Law Enforcement Purposes' received the 2021 Dean's Awards for Academic Excellence in a PhD Programme at the University of Malta.

Halefom is now an Assistant Professor in Law, Economics and Governance at Utrecht University.
